Research Interests
We are developing analytical separation methods for proteins based on electromobility focusing and mass spectrometry. Our main emphasis is the determination of protein cancer markers in blood for early detection of cancer.
Student Involvement/ Requirements
I can train one to two undergraduate students at a time. The undergraduates are usually put alongside graduate students to learn the techniques we use. I begin taking undergraduates in their sophomore year while they are taking Organic Chemistry. Chemistry majors and those interested in the research make more attractive candidates. Students must fill the following requirements in order to be considered for research work in my lab:
1.) Chem 105, 106, 107
2.) Willing to work a minimum of 10 hours/week for at least one year
The work is publication oriented and undergraduates do appear on the publication. The funding is generally provided by private sources or the government.
